Yasmeen Jaafar is an Articling Student with the Firm. She holds an Honours Specialist Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Toronto, Trinity College (2013), a Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta (2019), and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta (2019).
Prior to law school, Yasmeen worked at a litigation firm in Toronto for two years. During law school, Yasmeen was a Sustainability Scholar for the City of Edmonton, where she reviewed the City's public food vending regulatory framework. In 2018, Yasmeen then summered with Alberta Justice & Solicitor General in the Environmental Law Section gaining valuable environmental, planning & municipal, and administrative law experience. Yasmeen held two legal research positions while in law school in 2L and in her final year. Most recently, she conducted research on the intersection between administrative law and environmental/utilities regulation. She has an interest in environmental, planning & municipal, and administrative law.
Yasmeen was actively involved in sports in law school, such as competitive volleyball and rock-climbing, and in volunteering, including various formal mentorship programs, the Graduate Students' Association Appeals and Complaints Board, Student Legal Services - Civil Law Section, and the United Nations' Urban Thinkers Campus. During her spare time, she enjoys learning about urban design, travelling, long-distance running, weightlifting, and exploring local food scenes.
